AFGRI Equipment invites graduates to apply for Apprenticeship Programme in 2025. AFGRI offers a 3-year in-service training opportunity for matriculants only, leading to a qualification as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic. This opportunity is ideal for youth interested in the agricultural and mechanical engineering sector. Another intake will open in August and September 2025 for all applicants.

Programme Overview

  • Duration: 3 years (including 6-month probation)
  • Qualification: Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic
  • Training Includes:
    • Practical phases at a Training Institute
    • N-subjects via distance learning (if required)
    • Product training from John Deere and other suppliers
    • AFGRI internal technical training
  • Note: Training is free if passed, but repeats are at own cost
  • Apprentices will sign a contract with AFGRI, including a work-back period

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train as a Tractor or Earthmoving Mechanic/Technician
  • Conduct repair and maintenance of related equipment
  • Manage stock control
  • Provide customer service
  • General duties in the workshop/workplace

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Communication and Admin skills
  • Computer literacy

Educational Requirements:

  • N2 Certificate with:
    • Mathematics
    • Engineering Science
    • Diesel Trade Theory
    • One of: Industrial Electronics / Engineering Drawing / Motor Trade Theory
      OR
  • Matric Certificate with:
    • Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
    • Technical Mathematics
    • Physical Science / Technical Science
    • Engineering Graphics and Design

Applicants without N2 can complete required subjects through AFGRI-sponsored FET programmes.
