Responsibilities
- Ensure the efficient planning and coordination of all geological activities to meet operational targets.
- Participate-in and provide a strong contribution to the site safety and environment culture.
- Ensure the works are performed in accordance with approved Standard Operating
- Procedures (SOP), supervising and coaching of graduate geologists.
- Engage in MRM technical training program for Junior/Graduate Geologists to ensure for full geological understanding of ore bodies.
- Supervise drilling programs and field logistics to ensure drilling compliance is tracked against budget.
- Ensures best practice in drilling, sampling and assay quality control and quality assurance and develops procedures.
- Providing geological support to the operation while assisting with effective supervision of junior staff within MRM to help maximize resource definition, geological understanding and profitable ore extraction.
- Lead, develop, motivate, and encourage direct reports, peers, and other personnel to successfully achieve individual, departmental and company objectives.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Liaise with the site geologists to prepare and interpret the geology on geological sections to derive a geological model for deposits.
- Produce high quality geological models using Seequent’s Leapfrog Geo geological modelling software.
- Ensure geological modelling methodologies are undertaken in accordance with standards and procedures.
- Undertake data validation and QAQC on modelling-related data. Ensure QA compliance of samples, follow-up QC issues and sources of errors, identify mistakes and rectify.
- Close working relationship with Exploration to ensure that the geological modelling agrees with operational geology data.
- Prepare routine reports as required.
- Manage budgets for drill programs.
- Creation of additional targets into the pipeline.
- To the best of your knowledge and abilities, perform the duties assigned to you.
- Ore Control and ore accounting.
- Ensure ore is mined with maximum recovery and minimal dilution.
- Geological logging and interpretation of grade control drill holes.
- Liaise with the Survey Section to facilitate the set-out and or pick-up of drill hole collars, pick up of blast indicators before and after the blast, ore block set outs, and pit mapping points
- Participate in the delineation of ore zones and design of ore blocks using all available data from models, mapping, logging, assays, adjacent ore blocks and blast movement vectors
- Blast movement monitoring
- Regular pit face and floor mapping.
- Monitor all tasks being undertaken by Geotechnicians and contractors to ensure required works are completed to defined standards.
Qualification requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or related field required.
Experience and Competencies needed
- Five to seven years of post-graduate experience with at least 3 years in mineral exploration and mine geology, ore control or resource modelling or geologist roles.
- Experience with Vulcan, Leapfrog, Micromine or other mining software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment and excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal. Communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative on geological and work independently.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required.
- Demonstrated people leadership + management skills and training.
- Familiarity with and commitment to, OH&S and Environmental Management best practice.
- Database Software package.
- A valid Driver’s License. Have good work ethic and be goal oriented.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Current light vehicle driver’s license.
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office software.ie Power point.
- Familiarity with and commitment to HSE best practice.
