JOB PURPOSE:
The Child Safeguarding Officer will lead the implementation of child safeguarding standards across So They Can Tanzania programs. This role ensures that children and our beneficiaries are protected from abuse and exploitation, staff and partners are trained, and programs comply with So They Can policies, national child protection laws, guidelines and international best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the implementation of child safeguarding and SEAH prevention measures across all So They Can programs and projects.
- Coordinate and deliver safeguarding training for staff, partners, volunteers, and community stakeholders, maintaining all training records.
- Support and strengthen Child Protection and Safeguarding (CPS) desks in schools and communities to fulfill their safeguarding responsibilities.
- Collaborate with the communications team and champions network to develop child safeguarding awareness messages.
- Facilitate child participation in the development and review of safeguarding policies and codes of conduct.
- Conduct child protection, safeguarding and SEAH risk assessments and develop mitigation and management plans.
- Promote a safe organizational culture with zero tolerance for sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment
- Facilitate confidential reporting, documentation, and referral of safeguarding concerns through approved channels
- Maintain accurate safeguarding records in line with internal reporting and confidentiality requirements
- Maintain a list of service providers and facilitate prompt referral of reported cases.
- Conduct monitoring and supervision visits to both the communities and schools to ensure safeguarding compliance with national CPS guidelines, DFAT requirements, and internal policies
- Work closely with program and MEL teams to integrate safeguarding into planning, delivery, and evaluation
- Organize forums or workshops to share learning on safeguarding practices across schools and community spaces
- Facilitate membership of So They Can in networks that support Child Safeguarding.
- Be the contact person for work done by So They Can network of Champions, including reporting, case management, training, capacity building, networking and participation in national and international events.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Work, Child Protection, Education, Sociology, Social Sciences or related field
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in child safeguarding, child protection, or SEAH prevention in an NGO or development context
- Strong knowledge of Child laws, Safeguarding Policies, SEAH prevention, and survivor-centred approaches
- Demonstrated experience in training facilitation, community engagement, child protection and safeguarding, case management, risk assessment, networking and reporting
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Fluency in English and Swahili
- Willingness to travel regularly within program areas
